Student Warranty WHAT SETS US APART
The Warranty
Mullen’s Driving School and all of its affiliates warranty every student that enrolls in our driving schools. What this means is that if a student finishes the course, and for whatever reason feels the need to revisit the classroom, they can take the entire classroom portion of the course again. For free. They are more than welcome to come back to any one of our locations spread throughout Southern Maine.
What reasons are there for taking the course again?
Not all of our students are at the same maturity level when they leave the class. In fact, it is not uncommon to have students raging from ages 15 – 18 in our classes and we regularly have students from other age ranges as well. As a student’s level of maturity plays a major part in their ability to drive in a way that maximizes the risk management techniques we teach, it is important that they be given ample opportunity to grow as a driver. Driving, especially during the teenage years, is a skill that develops more and more with experience. Gaining that experience may be difficult if you as a parent are reluctant to let your teen drive because of a bad attitude or an inability to take it seriously.
That is where we come in. Sometimes sitting in on the classes again for a second time will be just what was needed to reinforce safe driving practices. It could be that they experience the class with a teacher that they relate to more or classmates that are more encouraging. Upon graduation we encourage you to speak with our instructors if you have any concerns about your teens driving.
When parents and teens don't see eye to eye
The truth of the matter is that for most parents it has been some time since you were in a driver’s ed class. If new legislation is regularly being added to Maine’s driving laws, vehicles are constantly changing, new driving techniques developed based on safety research and our world is constantly increasing the numbers of distractions we face on the road, it is inevitable that there will be many things your teens are taught that you may not be familiar with. Some individuals are more active than others in staying abreast of the latest driving developments but only you know where you stand.
Studies show that it takes 5 years for a person to become an "average driver". We also know from being on the road with new drivers all year round that we shouldn't expect too much from an "average driver". One thing that we do recommend is that parent consider taking the Maine Driving Dynamics Course. We currently do not offer this course, but if you follow the link you will be able to see when the next available class is in your area. By taking this class you will have a much better grasp on what your teen learned during their three and a half weeks in driver's ed and you will be better prepared to take over the duties of keeping your teen safe during the next 18 months.
One additional reason your teenager may want to revisit the classroom is if they took the course during non-winter months. Although we focus on winter driving in our classrooms all year long, time is against them the longer they go driving without experiencing the vast differences that winter driving has to offer. You can also contact us about private lessons if you would like the first time your child drives in winter, to be with one of our trained and experienced instructors.
