Our Philosophy

Our motto says it all: for a lifetime of safe driving.
The Driving School and all its affiliates have one simple goals and philosophy — to produce the safest, smartest, most responsible, mature, and considerate drivers that we possibly can. Drivers who are alert, knowledgeable and courteous each time they get behind the wheel.
To this end, we emphasize defensive driving, driver safety, and responsibility, in addition to awareness to laws and regulations, The Driving School provides 10 hours of driving time with our highly-trained instructors, and 30 hours of classroom instruction. For most of our students, learning to drive is the first major ste toward independence, and for their sakes we make the driver education experience all it can be, knowing it may be used every day for the rest of their lives.
But we don't stop there. The Driving School is a state-sanctioned provider of many driving-related services. We offer vocational rehabilitation for people whose licenses have been suspended due to injury, aging or illness. We provide much-needed driving time to foster kids and teens in group homes who would have difficulty meeting the state's requirements otherwise. We're a socially-minded company, and we know that every effort we make contributes to a better driving experience for everyone on th road.
We are proud of our company and of the services we provide, and this pride is apparent in the quality of education our students receive. We take the time to discuss the materials thoroughly with students — not just the hows, but the whys— both in the car and in the classroom, and this extra effort pays off. Our 38 years of consistent quality speaks for itself: we are the only driver education school in Maine that warranties its students. If a parent or guardianthinks thier teen's knowledge on a particular aspect of driving is lacking, or if a recent student wants clarification on any point of the curriculum, we invite that student to take that class again, this time on us.
Each one of our classroom instructors is passionate about teaching the drivers' ed curriculum clearly while being mindful of each student's needs. We know that every one learns differently, and that in order to reach each student individually, we teach every key point through visual, auditory, and tactile methods.
In order to learn the most from our program, we encourage our students to participate in class, and to ask questions whenever they need to. We also encourage parents to be responsive to any questions their teen may have. Please, do discuss what they’re learning in class — you can even attend class with them if you like! Tell your student about your own driving experiences, and please speak with our instructors if you have any questions.
