Driving Instructors

Our driver's education instructors are among the best in Maine. We offer in-house college-level teaching courses for our instructors, and they're rigorously tested— not just by state examiners.
Company founder, Bob Mullen, demands high standards and he stands behind each instructor. “We hire teachers, policemen, professional drivers-- people who enjoy teaching new skills. I hire people who like to be helpful. They have to be safety-oriented and enjoy what they do, ” he says.
All of our drivers and driving instructors emphasize defensive driving, and driver responsibility. They're professional, comfortable with both teens and adults, and safety is their first priority.
Here are a few of The Driving School's brave employees...
Office Manager Sharon von Knoblauch
Sharon's patience and people skills make her a great asset to The Driving
School, but her taste in literature is what really earned her a place
in our hearts.
Operations Manager and Class A Driving Instructor Marvin Campbell
Marvin train new instructors with his Methods of Teaching Course, as well
as teaching in the classroom. Marvin wears many hats, and we're proud
to have him as part of the team. Marvin has been with us for four years.
Class A Driving Instructor Dale Johnson
Since joining our team more than six years ago, Dale has added to his in-classroom
teaching responsibilities, and now teaches the other half of our instructors'
training course, Beginning Drivers' Education. Dale is a retired Lt.
Colonel in the USAF, and he dabbles in meteorology, so we always know
when bad weather is coming.
Class A Driving Instructor Doug Larrabee
Before joining The Driving School five years ago, Doug spent decades as
a driving examiner the Maine Department of Motor Vehicles. He knows his
business very well, but his laid-back style makes learning very easy.
Class A Driving Instructor Denis Lamontange
Denis has a great sense of humor— very important in this business— and
his students really like him.
Class A Driving Instructor Alton Gould
Alton's teaching style is precise and to-the-point. He's careful with his
words, and he has a lot to offer students who are serious about learning.
Class A Driving Instrustor Ed Lane
Ed is a student favorite and a veteran motorcycle instructor; in fact,
he's state-certified to train prospective motorcycle instructors.
Class A Driving Instructor Dave Berthiaume
Dave is a retired music teacher, and often sings instructions to his students!
Class A Driving Instructor Richard Heikkinen
Richard has been an educator his whole career— he's a retired assistant
principal.
